The Redskins played their last regular season and ECC game of the season at home against the visiting Kings Knights. Anderson had an opportunity to go undefeated and untied in for the first time in the conference’s history and wrap up a remarkable season at 15-1. Anderson settled into a rhythm and enjoyed most of the possession but needed 11 minutes to get on the scoreboard first. Mike Oetgen got it started with a nice ball over the top to Patrick Dames. Patrick slipped past a defender and drove the end line and hit a low hard service across the face of the goal that deflected off a Kings defender to give us a 1-0 lead. There was plenty more to come as Anderson won a free kick in the 27th minute and Patrick delivered a nice service that once again Matt Fickenworth hammered in with a header to make it 2-0. Brodie Sallows nearly pulled off an audacious chip over the keeper from distance a few minutes later only to see it sail just over the top. We did manage to make it 3-0 in the 34th minute when Ryan-Seither Howard did some hard work down the left hand side and sent a nice service across the goal that we couldn’t quite get a touch on but Elliot Kelley was there to recover the loose ball. Elliot immediately sent the back across the goal and Howie got his reward as he slammed home a full volley to up the lead. We weren’t done for the half as 3 minutes later Mike sent in a great long diagonal ball to Jack down the right flank and after an excellent first touch off his chest Jack was in 1 on 1 with the keeper and he buried it in the lower left hand corner to make it 4-0.
Kings started off well in the second half as they possessed the ball well and forced Alec Polster into a good save in the first 15 minutes. Anderson grabbed control back 16 minutes into the half with some good build up play between Brodie and Brevin resulted in a nice service that Patrick headed on frame but the Kings keeper did well to keep it of the goal. Sam Kunkemoeller was up next as he cracked a laser of a shot the keeper somehow saved. Jack looked like he added to his goal total on the night when Patrick picked him out at the far post but the well placed head ball into the back of the net was called back for offsides. The Redskins finally added to their tally with a nice combination of hard work and excellent technical ability. Jason Moore worked hard to get on the end of a long clearance from the back and sent a glancing header towards Brodie. Brodie’s first touch was superb as he sped past the Kings defender and coolly finished it off in the lower right hand corner to make it 5-0 with 10 minutes left. Another great team effort as Billy Southard and Alec Polster combined for another clean sheet as the boys ran their ECC record to 7-0-0 and their overall season record to 15-1. Tournament play begins on Tuesday 10/17 as the Redskins host Withrow at Brown Stadium, kickoff is 7:00PM. Go Skins!
