With a chance to clinch the ECC title for the second straight year the Redskins travelled to take on the Walnut Hills Eagles on Thursday, October 5th. The Eagles were the only team take a point from Anderson in the ECC last year with a 0-0 draw. For long stretches of the game it looked like this might be the case again. In the language of soccer fans everywhere the Eagles prefer to “park the bus” and attempt to hit on the counter attack. Such was the case in this game as Walnut had 8-9 players behind the ball most of the evening.  It would be up to the Redskins to be patient and try to unlock the defense as the game wore on. 8 minutes into the contest we thought we has a solution as Brevin threaded a ball behind the back line for Joey who finished it well only to see it called back for offsides. We had a series of corner kicks in the next 10 minutes but only Mike Oetgen’s header that went over the crossbar came close to threatening the Walnut goal. A huge possession advantage for Anderson but no goals to show for it and the half ends at 0-0.

The Redskins took some time to get untracked in the second half as the first chance came 6 minutes in when Brodie put Jack in on a thru ball only to see the Eagles come up with a huge save. Just when it looked we may end up with another scoreless draw we got the breakthrough we needed. We won a corner kick and Sam sent in another great service. Matt rose above the defenders and sent a header downward towards goal. The ball hopped up and Patrick was on the end of it to guide it past the keeper for a 1-0 lead with 9 minutes left. Anxious Redskins fans had to wait it out as the boys defended well and saw the clock run out and the ECC championship belonged to Anderson for the second straight year! Congratulations to the boys and the coaching staff.
